An area of operations or a specific project might be far from good road access, the coast, or a usable river. Even the next existing airstrip might be not practicable. In this case our advice is to consider the construction of an airstrip which is often easier than you might think, dependant on the areas that are available for that purpose. On the right side of the screen you can see the airstrips we have built so far in Madagascar, and also a list of future building projects. It is easiest to register these airstrips in the private category, so that the license to use it only needs to be renewed every 7 years. MAF Madagascar can assist with both the legal and technical sides of runway construction.

Our aircraft need an absolute minimum of 500 metres in length for the runway, unrestricted on both sides. But we advise to aim for a total length of 1000 metres and 30 metres in width.

All runway construction is directed by our Special Project Workshop in Ivato, who modify and maintain building equipment, and who also fabricate all required special equipment.
